Waste paper in. High performance out.
IFI transforms recycled paper into high-performance cellulose insulation — giving recovered fibre a new purpose while helping create cooler, quieter and more energy-efficient buildings.
A waste stream, redirected
IFI SHIELD systems are manufactured from recycled paper collected in the Philippines and processed into fibre at our Subic Bay facility. Paper that would otherwise go to landfill becomes a building material with a decades-long service life.
We use borate-treated recycled cellulose. Natural borate minerals are what make the material Class A fire retardant, resistant to mold and pests, and inhospitable to insects and rodents — without the toxicity profile of synthetic alternatives.
Manufacturing locally matters more than it sounds. Insulation is a bulky, low-density product; shipping it from Europe or North America means moving mostly air across an ocean. Producing in Subic Bay for the Philippine market significantly reduces reliance on long-distance transport of finished insulation.
The bigger saving is downstream
The sustainability benefit doesn't end when the insulation is installed. By reducing heat gain, effective insulation can lower cooling demand and support more energy-efficient building operation over time.
Lower cooling load
Reducing heat gain through the building envelope can lessen the cooling required to maintain comfortable indoor conditions — the largest single energy consumer in most Philippine buildings.
More efficient system design
When insulation is considered early in the design, lower cooling loads can help optimise equipment sizing and overall system efficiency.
Lasting performance
Properly specified and installed cellulose insulation is designed to maintain its performance over the long term.
Safe for the people who install it and the people who live under it
- Non-toxic in service — safe for occupants, staff and livestock
- No formaldehyde binders and no fibreglass irritation for installers
- Class A fire retardant (ASTM E84) through borate treatment
- Resistant to mold growth in humid tropical service
- Deters insects and rodents without separate pesticide treatment
- Non-corrosive to metal purlins, sheeting, studs and fixings
- SDS (safety data sheet) available on request for specification and site files
- Installed by trained, IFI-supervised crews under controlled procedures
